April 2009What happened in April...

April was actually a month of two halves. The first ten days saw the overflow of Pratchett month, with readings from Small Gods and other stories ending in arguably the funniest of all the extracts - a reading from the hysterically funny Thud!.

We then moved into new territory with several readings based upon a common theme - and April became the month about the end of the world. When we started April, the news was telling us we were all going broke; by the time we ended April the news was telling us we were all going to die of mutant flu from Mexico. Never has reading Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four and Heller's Catch-22 seemed so suitable.

On top of this Elwe continued her excellent contributions, bringing us Mark Twain. Saybera Drake returned with a brilliant collection of poems that raised the bar on the standards we expect considerably.
