This Month's Author Our Readers Photo Gallery Recordings Archives Get Involved!    A U G U S T   2 0 0 9   This month at O'Casey's, we decided to indulge in our 'Guilty Pleasures'. It was time to admit that whilst we love the great writers, we also feel just as much at home reading trashy, fun and throwaway books and novels. No one writer but loads of them.... From classic slushy romance to action adventure, to zombies, this month was decidedly fun! O'Casey's head honcho Danton Thirroul brought to us a series of readings about the life of notorious womaniser Giacomo Casanova, aptly titled The Seven Deadly Sins. Roswenthe Aluveaux made her O'Casey's debut with a hilariously funny excerpt from Seth Grahame-Smith's Pride, Prejudice and Zombies, and Gideon Defoe's Pirates made a much welcome comeback! The fantastic Elwe Eldrich returned with fascinating tales about the world's favourite nanny, and we all got our teeth into some truly indulgently cringeworthy literature. August was also the month we honoured the late director John Hughes with a special set of music from his films.    T H E   M O N T H   T H A T   W A S . . .   Date Time Event Sunday 2nd 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter J. Tuesday 4th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Robert Sheckley's The Store of the Worlds Eric Frank Russell's Sole Solution An event given over to the fine art of storytelling - be it a gripping yarn, a chilling horror story or cracking flummery; folklore or a short story - we gather around the bar, grab ourselves a nice drink and enjoy the tale... this evening we present another series of excellent short stories. Friday 7th 3pm Guilty Pleasures! Tom Clancy's Executive Orders Time for something meaty and manly - a reading of one chapter of Tom Clancy. Jack Ryan rides again... Sunday 9th 3pm My Favourite Director, My Favourite Soundtracks Tonight O'Casey's will dedicate an hour to the films and soundtracks of the late GREAT John Hughes - the man who created the movies that defined an era!!! Self-confessed Hughes fan Danton Thirroul talks about the films, the music and the career of one of the most beloved film directors of the last 20 years. LIVE @ O'Casey's! Tuesday 11th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Frederik Pohl's The Tunnel Under the World An event given over to the fine art of storytelling - be it a gripping yarn, a chilling horror story or cracking flummery; folklore or short story - we gather around the bar, grab ourselves a nice drink and enjoy the tale... this evening we present another series of excellent short stories. This afternoon, some classic sci-fi with an evil twist! Wednesday 12th 3pm Guilty Pleasures! The Seven Deadly Sins I As part of our Guilty Pleasures season at O'Casey's we are bringing you someting wonderfully sinful. One of the best written accounts of the seven deadly sins ever - the autobiography of the one and only Giacomo Casanova. This evening Casanova the teenager shows us anger, pride, slouth and envy! Welcome to the most sinful life ever lived - welcome to the TRUTH about Casanova! Friday 14th 2pm Guilty Pleasures! Seth Grahame-Smith's Pride, Prejudice and Zombies As part of our Guilty Pleasures season at O'Casey's, we bring you Roswenthe Aluveaux reading Seth Grahame-Smith's remarkably sick version of Jane Austen. A tale of love, passion, heaving bodices... and of course zombies. And brains! BRAINS! Sunday 16th 3pm Guilty Pleasures! The Seven Deadly Sins II How to have an affair in the 18th century! Guilty Pleasures season continues at O'Casey's with another extract from the life and times of Casanova! This evening young Casanova and his infamous affair with a lawyers wife! A live reading from Danton Thirroul @ O'Casey's! Tuesday 18th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Gideon Defoe's The Pirates! in an Adventure with Scientists An event given over to the fine art of storytelling - be it a gripping yarn, a chilling horror story or cracking flummery; folklore or short story - we gather around the bar, grab ourselves a nice drink and enjoy the tale... this evening Danton Thirroul returns with another short story about The Pirates and their adventures with Charles Darwin! Friday 21st 3pm Guilty Pleasures! Henry Rider Haggard's King Solomon's Mines Our season continues with an extract from the very VERY UN-PC King Solomon's Mines. Allan Quatermain and gripping adventures in Africa! Total nonsense and awful racial sterotypes - how the world has changed in 124 years! An introduction and reading by Danton Thirroul. Sunday 23rd 3pm By Shining Water Blue Verse Guilty Pleasures at O'Casey's continues with a special 'By Shining Water'... Our regular monthly poetry event returns with a collection of some of the dirtiest and funniest blue poems ever written! Come on down and giggle! NOT FOR THE EASILY OFFENDED! Tuesday 25th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children P. L. Travers' Mary Poppins Comes Back Our weekly event dedicated to the fine art of the stories that delight the evil child in all of us. This week we see the return of our very own Elwe Eldrich reading extracts from P. L. Travers' 'Mary Poppins Comes Back'. 'Bad Wednesday' is kinda odd, kinda creepy and kinda perfect for us! Friday 28th 3pm Guilty Pleasures! Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Identity Today we are indulging in some classic Cold War era pap - with an extract from The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum. Classic spy thriller romance as O'Casey's admits to yet another guilty pleasure. Sunday 30th 3pm Guilty Pleasures! The Seven Deadly Sins III Tonight we indulge in the last of our extracts from the life and times of Casanova. This evening - Casanova at his worst... no... really... there was a reason he was run out of town a lot! Live reading from O'Casey's regular Danton Thirroul.
