We came out of the massive and insane Dublin New Year's celebrations (did Danton actually DJ for six hours?) to a month of great fantasy and gothic literature. We saw a brief season of short stories by the likes of Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley and Edgar Allen Poe - Miranda Milestone's vocal descent into madness still gives us shivers! This was a continuation of the special previews we ran just before Christmas and were well received. January also saw the performance of T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land - never before performed in Second Life (scary!). It was one of our most successful poetry events so far and caused quite a reaction. But the mainstay of the month was the wonderful work of J. R. R. Tolkien. The 'Godfather of Fantasy' drew the fans and the readers and we found ourselves transported to Middle Earth several times - from Safra Nitely’s evocative extract of The Hobbit and Bilbo Baggins finding the Ring, through to the adventures of the Fellowship and even beyond Middle-earth with Riko Kamachi’s wonderful reading of Leaf by Niggle.
