November 2009In November we returned to the fantasy genre with one of the world's most beloved contemporary fantasy writers - Tad Williams. We had six readings of Williams' work - from the classic fantasy of Shadowplay to the sci-fi genius of the Otherworld series. A month dedicated to opening doors to other worlds...

This month we saw Doramia Aeon and Isobela Capalini read for the first time at O'Casey's; we also hosted Riko Kamachi's first ever DJ set as she shared with us contemporary Japanese music. Danton Thirroul also shared with us his love for the works of Leonard Cohen, and Malinda Muircastle returned with more of her own work.

Meanwhile, the legendary Elwe continued her readings, with the Hopi Indian and Aborigine creation myths. Danton gave a lecture on the story behind Guy Fawkes' Day. Armistice Day was celebrated with a poetry event and we prepared to celebrate our first anniversary!

A Moment In Time
"Remember, remember the fifth of November..."

The fifth of November is famous around the world for being the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot. Since the recent movie V for Vendetta came out, people have come to see Guy Fawkes as a a glorious freedom fighter. But who was he really? What did he actually do? Who was the actual evil genius behind the attempt to carry out the first act of modern terrorism? O'Casey's presents one of its signature events - as Danton Thirroul guides us through the unique world of religious extremists, spies, arms dealers, and assassins.
