This Month's Author Our Readers Photo Gallery Recordings Archives Get Involved!    O C T O B E R   2 0 0 9   October - a month which ended with two days which Dublin is oddly famous for; Halloween and El Día de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead). For the last few years Dublin has built up a reputation for holding the best Halloween celebrations in the whole of Second Life; so this year, O'Casey's went all out. When it came to writers we had an impressive array - from the gothic majesty of Edgar Allen Poe and Horace Walpole, to the nightmarish pulp of H. P. Lovecraft. O'Casey's readers shared their favoured fear-filled moments from novels such as The Lovely Bones. If that was not enough we really expanded our range of original work by brilliant SL talents - October saw not just another poetry recital by Saybera Drake, but original writings from Malinda Muircastle and first life author Tally Johnson. October brought us the largest range of readers we have ever had, with the welcome return of Kennef Riggles and Riko Kamachi to total newcomers - Hy Gynoid, Lucis Haiku and others. We also saw the DJs return with a series of My Secret Passions, as we spent evenings in the company of Kate Bush, Duke Robillard and music that sums up the word 'gothic'.    T H E   M O N T H   T H A T   W A S . . .   Date Time Event Thursday 1st 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter Anne Brontë's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall We bring Brontë month at O'Casey's to a close with Safra Nitely reading us an extract from The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Friday 2nd 3pm Fear and Horror! James Herbert's The Ghosts of Sleath We begin the season with the British master of fear and horror - James Herbert, arguably the best modern British horror writer. Tonight, a live reading of his chilling The Ghosts of Sleath... can a ghost haunt a ghost? Chilling and brooding horror... Sunday 4th 3pm My Secret Passion The music of Kate Bush by Danton Thirroul The signature O'Casey's music event returns with with a vengence. This time around its Danton with his very peculiar adoration and worship of all things Kate Bush. Two hours with the original quirky and eccentric Queen of British Rock - come discover why she still drives her fans to slavish devotion! Tuesday 6th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Edgar Allan Poe's The Masque of Red Death by Elwe Clive Barker's Down Satan! by Danton As part of horror month, Beautiful Stories is dedicated to the writing of one of the most famous horror authors of all time - Edgar Allan Poe. Join Elwe Eldrich as she presents a series of mysterious and macabre stories from the master himself. Friday 9th 3pm Fear and Horror! Bram Stoker's Dracula Veena Schism makes her O'Casey's debut with a chilling and macabre extract from Bram Stoker's gothic masterpiece Dracula, the most famous horror novel of all! Come join us in the celebration of the ORIGINAL Vampire book... and this guy? He NEVER shines! Saturday 10th 3pm Fear and Horror! O'Casey's presents Tally Johnson Tally Johnson (SL: GhostAuthor Bigboots), ghost expert and author of Ghosts of the South Carolina Upcountry, Ghosts of the South Carolina Midlands and Ghosts of the Pee Dee, comes to O'Casey's to share with us his true stories of the spooky and supernatural. Sunday 11th 3pm My Secret Passion The music of Duke Robillard by Isobela Capalini My Secret Passion is where we ask DJs to reveal their secret passion and indulge it! Each DJ is given two hours to play exclusive one type of music or one artist - something or someone not always expected. Tonight, self-professed blues queen Isobela Capalini brings us her great passion... the music of Duke Robillard! Tuesday 13th 3pm Fear and Horror! Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto We take a trip back to the very beginning of gothic literature with a reading by Riko Kamachi of Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto. The original gothic tale of ambition, lust and ancestral revenge from beyond the grave. Friday 16th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children O'Casey's presents Malinda Muircastle O'Casey's regular Malinda Muircastle takes the stage for the first time with a selection of her original short stories. Sunday 18th 3pm Fear and Horror! Chuck Palahniuk's Lullaby One of the best writers of the current generation, Palahniuk is famed for his epic Fight Club. What is less well-known is that he wrote one of the MOST disturbing and original horror stories of the past decade. A book which has more original ideas packed in its first twenty pages or so than most writers find in a career - stylish, dark, funny and with plenty of attitude, Danton Thirroul shares with us a modern classic. Tuesday 20th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Edgar Allan Poe's Berenice As part of horror month, Beautiful Stories is dedicated to the writing of one of the most famous horror authors of all time - Edgar Allan Poe. Join Elwe Eldrich as she presents a series of mysterious and macabre stories from the master himself. Friday 23rd 3pm Fear and Horror! Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones Lucis Haiku makes her debut at O'Casey's with a reading from the haunting The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Following her untimely death, a young girl watches over her family from her personal Heaven as they come to terms with her loss. Sunday 25th 3pm My Secret Passion Gothic music by Saybera Drake My Secret Passion is where we ask DJs to reveal their secret passion and indulge it! Each DJ is given two hours to play exclusive one type of music or one artist - something or someone not always expected. Tonight, our resident poetess Saybera Drake brings us her great passion... gothic music! Tuesday 27th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Chuck Palahniuk's Guts As part of our Fear and Horror season, Danton Thirroul brings us this horrific short story - famed for making people faint when read by the author. An O'Casey's warning: this short story is genuinely horrific and shocking. We advise our patrons that it is an unedited version of the story and is NOT for the easily offended. Or those who get sick easily. Friday 30th 3pm Fear and Horror! H. P. Lovecraft's From Beyond For his very first event at O'Casey's, DJ Hy Gynoid brings us a short story from the master of 20th century horror, H. P. Lovecraft. Saturday 31st 3pm By Shining Water Parchments of Noir by Saybera Drake Our resident poetess follows up September's triumphant Messages in a Bottle with some of her especially spooky poetry for Halloween.
