This Month's Author Our Readers Photo Gallery Recordings Archives Get Involved!    S E P T E M B E R   2 0 0 9   Summer was over, the weather turned; skies darkened, autumn came and we turned our minds towards darker passions. As such O'Casey's brought you a range of events to entertain and delight you. Our featured authors this month were the Brontë sisters - from the wild passion of Wuthering Heights to Jane Eyre and more - the foreboding passions in the Brontës' books really came to the fore, with readings by Danton Thirroul, Riko Kamachi, Saybera Drake and Safra Nitely. We were honoured to host our resident poet Saybera Drake's third show, this one tying in with International Talk Like a Pirate Day. One of the high points of the month, Saybie's shows were already well known for the sheer quality of her poetry. This one DID raise the standard! September also saw a welcome return to My Secret Passion - the musical event wherein DJs indulge and become screaming fanboys/girls for two hours. Ashlene McMinnar wowed us at her O'Casey's debut with an event dedicated to the legendary rock group Queen. Add to this a special event to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 and our regular Beautiful Stories for Evil Children events - and this was a QUIET month for us!    T H E   M O N T H   T H A T   W A S . . .   Date Time Event Tuesday 1st 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Raymond Chandler's The Bronze Door Our longest running event, Beautiful Stories for Evil Children, is dedicated to telling a whole story in one session. Danton Thirroul reads a VERY disturbing little story by Raymond Chandler - a murder mystery set in London with several twists! Friday 4th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre The first of our readings from the Brontë sisters. This evening Riko Kamachi returns to O'Casey's to bring us an extract from Jane Eyre. Tuesday 8th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Judith Byron Schachner's Skippyjon Jones An event given over to the fine art of storytelling - be it a gripping yarn, a chilling horror story or cracking flummery; folklore or short story - we gather around the bar, grab ourselves a nice drink and enjoy the tale... Elwe Eldrich returns with another classic short story - bringing us one of her own brand of classic and rather evil short stories. Friday 11th 3pm 9/11 Memorial Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn's 102 Minutes To tie in with the 9th anniversary of the tragic events in NYC, O'Casey's will be doing a special reading this evening - extracts from the haunting 102 Minutes. All donations this evening will go to the American Red Cross. Sunday 13th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights Continuing on with our Brontë season here at O'Casey's Bar, Danton Thirroul reads an extract from the wonderful Wuthering Heights. Tuesday 15th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Clive Barker's Body Politic An event given over to the fine art of storytelling - be it a gripping yarn, a chilling horror story or cracking flummery; folklore or short story - we gather around the bar, grab ourselves a nice drink and enjoy the tale... Danton brings us another short story - this one filled with evil goodness! Friday 18th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter Charlotte Brontë's Villette As part of this month's Brontë celebrations, We bring you Danton Thirroul reading an extract from what he considers the best of ALL the Brontës' books - Villette! Saturday 19th 3pm By Shining Water Messages in a Bottle by Saybera Drake A question that's bothered us all month: who is the mysterious pirate Blackie? O'Casey's resident poetess Saybera Drake returns with a specially themed show for International Talk Like a Pirate Day, with cameo appearances from some very special pirate guests! Sunday 20th 3pm My Secret Passion The music of Queen by Ashlene McMinnar A welcome return to the wonderful music event wherein DJs indulge in playing a set of their secret passion. Tonight Ashlene McMinnar, one of Dublins newest DJs, brings us HER Secret passion... the music of Queen! Two hours of Freddie and co. in an awesome event which promises to be great fun! Tuesday 22nd 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Hans Christian Andersen's The Girl Who Stepped on Bread and Mother Elderberry An event given over to the fine art of storytelling - be it a gripping yarn, a chilling horror story or cracking flummery; folklore or short story - we gather around the bar, grab ourselves a nice drink and enjoy the tale... Friday 25th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre As part of our month featuring the Brontës, Danton Thirroul brings us an extract from the haunting Jane Eyre.
