This Month's Author Our Readers Photo Gallery Recordings Archives Get Involved!    A P R I L   2 0 1 0   This month we gave ourselves over entirely to the love of poetry in all its forms. We had a wonderful line-up in store, covering a very diverse range of poets; from the Romantics to the Modernists to Ancient Chinese poets. There were ten dedicated poetry events throughout April, with poetry from almost 2000 years ago right up to the present day. A smaller body of readers this month, Poetry Month was the brainchild of O'Casey's regulars Saybera Drake and Danton Thirroul.    T H E   M O N T H   T H A T   W A S . . .   Date Time Event Sunday 4th 3pm Poetry Month The Romantics Danton Thirroul kicks off our poetry season with a collection of works by the giants of the Romantic era - Keats, Shelley and Lord Byron. A live reading down here at O'Casey's. Tuesday 6th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Elwe Eldrich returns to O'Casey's for another live reading of short stories designed to entertain you, enthrall you and amuse you. Friday 9th 3pm Poetry Month T. S. Eliot O'Casey's had two events dedicated to T.S. Eliot in 2009... seems a shame not to bring him back for 2010! Combining the best of the two previous events, with some new works thrown in, Danton Thirroul returns again to the poetry that marks Eliot as the greaest poet of the 20th century. Saturday 10th 3pm Poetry Month Emily Dickinson Saybera Drake returns to O'Casey's with readings from one of America's most beloved poets - Emily Dickinson! Tuesday 13th 3pm Poetry Month The Ancient Chinese Danton Thirroul presents his own selection of some of his favourite poems from the ancient past of China - a country whose poetry is perhaps some of the most delicate and brilliant ever made. Friday 16th 3pm Poetry Month The Modernists Poetry month at O'Casey's continues with a recital of a collection of work by some of the best poets of the last century - from Lorca to Betjeman. A live reading by Danton Thirroul. Saturday 17th 3pm Poetry Month Edgar Allan Poe Saybera Drake returns to O'Casey's with readings from the master of the macabre, Edgar Allen Poe. Well-known for his prose, tonight sees Poe's brilliance as a poet come to the fore. Tuesday 20th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Charles Perrault's Cowlick Ricky Kip, the Enchanted Cat Elwe Eldrich returns to O'Casey's for another live reading of short stories designed to entertain you, enthrall you and amuse you. Friday 23rd 3pm Poetry Month William Blake One of the most influential poets of the last 500 years, O'Casey's is proud to bring to you readings of William Blake poetry - LIVE! Saturday 24th 3pm Poetry Month Saybera Drake What's the point in having a resident poet if we do not use her? Saybera Drake returns with another selection of great original poetry. Sunday 25th 3pm Poetry Month Walt Whitman Perhaps the most influential and beloved of all American poets, O'Casey's finally brings the event we had planned to do some months previously - an event entirely dedicated to Walt Whitman! With live readings by both Danton Thirroul and Saybera Drake.
