For many he is the dark hero of noir fiction... For others he is an unknown name... For those who had never heard of him it was our honour to introduce to you this brilliant author and his unique look on the world. For those who did know him we invited you to come celebrate this brilliant writer's best works. We also had some Raymond Chandler short stories and an evening revelling in some of the most famous murders of all time; Elwe returned and Saybera brought us another collection of some very dark poems. Overall it is clear that in January at O'Casey's... Miss Scarlett did it with the candlestick in the kitchen!!    T H E   M O N T H   T H A T   W A S . . .   Date Time Event Tuesday 5th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter James Ellroy's Blood on the Moon We begin our Noir season with our first reading of James Ellroy - an extract from the brilliant Blood on the Moon. A live reading from Danton Thirroul as O'Casey's begins its second year... Friday 8th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter James Ellroy's L. A. Confidential I We continue James Ellroy season with an extract from his most famous book... L. A. Confidential introduced many to Ellroy's dark and sleazy version of Los Angeles. This is Ellroy at his most brutal, most poetic and most damned. Sunday 10th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter James Ellroy's The Cold Six Thousand The Cold Six Thousand is perhaps the most evil and brutal book ever written. Come see why as Danton Thirroul gives us a taste of the brutalism and poetry in this amazing novel. A live reading. Tuesday 12th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Fernando Sorrentino's A Lifestyle O. Henry's The Princes and the Puma O. Henry's The Ransom of Red Chief An event given over to the fine art of storytelling - be it a gripping yarn, a chilling horror story or cracking flummery; folklore or short story - we gather around the bar, grab ourselves a nice drink and enjoy the tale... Elwe Eldrich returns, bringing us her own brand of classic and rather evil short stories. Tuesday 19th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter James Ellroy's Brown's Requiem O'Casey's continues its James Ellroy season with an extract from his first book... Brown's Requiem. A private eye and a missing girl... all the ingredients of a classic Noir. A live reading from Danton Thirroul. Friday 22nd 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter James Ellroy's L. A. Confidential II Malinda Muircastle returns to bring us a second excerpt from Ellroy's best-known novel, L. A. Confidential. A live reading at O'Casey's! Sunday 24th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter James Ellroy's Suicide Hill James Ellroy explores the nature of violence and its implications in a graphic extract from his epic Suicide Hill. A live reading by Danton Thirroul. Tuesday 26th 3pm Beautiful Stories for Evil Children Charlotte Perkins Gilman's The Yellow Wallpaper An event given over to the fine art of storytelling - be it a gripping yarn, a chilling horror story or cracking flummery; folklore or short story - we gather around the bar, grab ourselves a nice drink and enjoy the tale... Elwe Eldrich returns with another classic short story - bringing us one of her own brand of classic and rather evil short stories. Friday 29th 3pm My Favourite Author, My Favourite Chapter James Ellroy's The Cold Six Thousand James Ellroy explores one of the most horrific events in American history - the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As always, seen through the eyes of the darkest writer in America - our final Ellroy reading - LIVE! Saturday 30th 3pm By Shining Water Autographs in Blood by Saybera Drake O'Casey's very own poetess Saybera Drake returns with a very special offering; tonight she will unveil to the audience some excerpts from her upcoming book In The Blood. She will also be sharing more of her beautifully dark poetry and noir prose. Sunday 31st 3pm A Moment In Time Murder Most Foul!!! A Moment in Time is O'Casey's occasional foray into history... today we look at the most noir of historical murders... whose death? Find out on the night...
